What is snail drool?

With glands at the foot, an alternately contracting and stretching muscle, the snail secretes mucus also known as snail drool. With a translucent appearance and a viscous consistency, this organic matter consists essentially of water, with, moreover, glycoproteins, molecules made up of sugar and proteins.

This thick mucus facilitates the movement of this gastropod, while allowing it to attach to the walls. It has virtues that allow the snail to regenerate its body and shell. These virtues allow the snail to reconstitute its shell when it is damaged and make this mollusk capable of self-healing. When the mollusc is injured, the special composition of the drool facilitates the natural disappearance of the wound.
